Eastern Lowland Gorilla Tracking at Kahuzi-Biega National Park – Nature/Community Walk – Educating Locals on Conservation Experience
Your day begins early with breakfast before heading to the park offices for registration. After a briefing on the rules and expectations for lowland gorilla trekking, the park authorities will assign you to one of the four habituated Eastern Lowland Gorilla groups. Gorilla trekking typically takes about 4 hours, and once you locate the primates, you will have one hour to observe them and take photos. Keep an eye out for other wildlife, including mammals, primates, and bird species.
After the trek and lunch, you’ll participate in an enriching experience focused on “Educating Locals on Conservation”. Through interactive sessions, you’ll gain insight into how local communities are being empowered to support conservation efforts while ensuring sustainable livelihoods. This activity offers a hands-on experience and an opportunity to contribute to conservation education.
Later in the afternoon, you can choose to visit the Kibati waterfalls, Bukavu town, the Mbayo tea estate, or take a walk around Kahuzi-Biega National Park.
