This 3-day adventure offers an unforgettable experience of gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. As you explore the heart of the Virunga Massif, you’ll encounter majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The tour also takes you beyond the wildlife by offering a meaningful connection with local communities, including a visit to an ex-poacher family. This unique opportunity allows you to witness firsthand how former poachers have transitioned to protecting the same wildlife they once hunted, creating a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts.
You will arrive at Kigali Airport and be transferred directly to your lodge. If you arrive late, consider adding a pre-night stay in Kigali. After checking in, relax and enjoy a guided walk through the gardens, taking in the natural beauty. Dinner is included, and you’ll have an early night in preparation for your exciting trek tomorrow.
Wake up early for breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. Groups will be allocated by the park rangers, and you will embark on an incredible trek in search of mountain gorillas. The hike can take several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once you find them, you will have one hour for observation, witnessing the unique dynamics of the gorilla family. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit an ex-poacher family to learn about their transition to sustainable practices. Dinner is included at the lodge.
Enjoy breakfast before checking out. Today, you will be transferred back to Kigali Airport for your onward flight (please ensure your flight is not earlier than early afternoon). You can choose to fly home or contact us to extend your journey.
